My Personal Favorite...Songs

Steveie Wonder - Skeletons

Admittedly, this is not one of Stevie's better known songs but I remember liking it when I first came across it way back in the 80's (well, 1987 to be exact).

It has a pretty funky beat and Stevie's evergreen energtic voice. I like it a lot (well, almost as much as I like Sir Duke, but then, everyone knows Sir Duke. Not this one tho')

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Food Review - Heritage Village

Name
Heritage Village
Food
Baba Nyonya, Local, Halal
Location
Jaya Shopping Centre

Location
Located on the 3rd floor of the completely rebuilt PJ Icon - Jaya Shopping Centre, which is directly opposite another equally recognizable PJ landmark, the PJ Digital Mall.

Parking
There's ample parking spaces. Diners can opt for parking within the complex or along the various public parking spaces along the road & vicinity.

Ambience
This place seems to be packed almost every single time I am there (I've been there 4 times so far). It looks like the PJ community really likes this place as the diners I see there range from young couples, and groups of young people to families from 3 generations (from grampa to grandchildren).

I guess this may be partly due to the fact that the mall had just been re-opened fairly recently after it was demolished & rebuilt from scratch. Ths place is clean, new & very inviting.

Service
The staff are mainly non-locals. However, that's a plus point in fact because they are very courteous and understand what real service means. The only downside with them is the communication part as they may not sound or say things in the way we understand them easily. However, their enthusiasm in their work more than makes up for this.

Food
I've a bias for Baba-Nyonya cuisine, so, of course I'm gonna like most of the food items here. Special
mention goes out to the Lo-Bak (deep fried meet-rolls), the Pong Teh Chicken.

Taste
As I had said earlier, I love Baba/Nyonya Food. I haven't identified any item from the menu that I didn't like despite my not having tried out every single one.

Presentation
I have not been to a Baba/Nyonya place that doesn't serve their food in the traditional Chinese clay-ware. And Heritage is no exception.

Variety
There are lots to choose from in their menu.
They range from the Baba/Nyonya classics like
- Otak
- Lobak
- Pong Teh
to sections for Rice, Noodles, deserts and dishes.

VFM
The prices are pretty reasonable and for the various times that I dined there, the place was full.

I'd have to say that if you like Baba/Nyonya cuisine, this would be a good place to try out. Let me know what you think once you have done so. =)

Movie Review - Stretch

Movie Title
Stretch
Year
2014
Genre

Comedy, Crime
Stretch (2014) Story
Stretch (Patrick Wilson) is a really down-on-his-luck limo driver who not only had his hot girlfriend (Brooklyn Decker) ditch him, but also somehow has a $6,000 debt to the neighborhood kingpin that's due within the next 24 hours (well, by midnight actually but who's keeping count?).
Stretch knows this is next to impossible with his limo driver salary BUT, with the help of his trusty colleague (Jessica Alba), he gets a chance to possibly change that when he picks up super eccentric millionaire Karos (brilliantly played by an almost unrecognizable Chris Pine) known for always giving his drivers huge tips. The only problem is that Karos expects his drivers to do some equally crazy & eccentric tasks for him.
The mission for Stretch was to get a briefcase from a French gangster (James Badge Dale), bring it back to Karos by a certain time, and Stretch gets his huge tip. While the mission starts off simple, it gets more and more complicated by the minute. So the rest of the movie is a messy combo of Hollywood hijinks involving running his errand, running from the French gangsters, the kingpin's henchmen reminding him of his midnight deadline and how Stretch manages to juggle everything.
Image result for stretch 2014Oh yeah, from time to time, Stretch also gets advice and motivation from his dead competitor limo-driver - Karl (with a "K") played by Ed Helms.Acting
Well, despite having big names like Alba, Pine and of course Wilson, this is a comedy after all. For what it is, I think they really delivered. I especially liked seeing this side of Chris Pine. Especially when he first appears in the movie where he drops in on Stretch at the pick up point by parachute and he was almost totally naked (that's right girls...) with a full-faced beard.
I almost forgot but Ray Liotta & the Hoff (David Hasselhoff) also played minor roles in this movie.
Overall
This movie reminds me a lot of another comedy that I'd watched about a year ago - The Walk of Shame (2014), which I also enjoyed. Sure, these are not going to be award winners but it's good for a few laughs. I guess it's the sadistic side we have and how seeing someone else's troubles become the stuff of comedy.
I probably won't go out of my way to look for this for a re-watch but if this was playing on TV, I'd watch it again.
