Game Review - Deck Heroes

Deck Heroes
Developer
IGG (I Got Games)

Ever since the demise of the Avengers Alliance game on FB, I haven't really found a game that compels me to log on for my daily dose until I found Deck Heroes more than a year ago.
As a big fan of both Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Deck Heroes is right up my alley. In a way, it really reminds me of a great PC Game - Heroes of Might and Magic. The only difference is that instead of having an avatar that crawls the maps with your heroes and creatures, this game is based entirely on collectible cards a la Magic the Gathering.

OK, disclaimer: This will NOT be a real review, I merely wanted to appreciate the TOP NOTCH World Class Artwork contained in the game. I would say that ALMOST every single piece of artwork on the cards are worthy of being framed!
This is the home screen for the game from where you can go to the various sections of the game.

Of course, as with all Fantasy Games, the game world will have various factions or races. In the case of Deck Heroes, there are 4 factions that players can use at any time and in any combination:
  1. Human
  2. Faen
  3. Neander
  4. Mortii

For this post, I'm focusing specifically on the many types of dragons available in the game. Why I chose dragons is because some of the other creatures (such as Efreets or Warlocks) may not be as well known by the general public as dragons. C'mon, who doesn't know what dragons are right?

Look at the artwork for the dragons. Aren't they just top notch?

Great Artwork, great game-play (it's FREE) and it's very challenging to boot. What more can you ask for?

Spies who love the letter "J"

This has been something that has bugged me for years.

Has it occurred to you that many, if not most, of the spies in the fictional world have names that start with the letter "J"?

If it hasn't occurred to you, maybe it should now.

Let me reveal their secret:

James Bond (this fella needs no introduction right?)

Jason Bourne (Matt Damon's Spy movie franchise)
Johnny English (Mr. Bean's other movie franchise)
Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise's latest Spy movie franchise)
Jack Ryan (from Tom Clancy's books and movies)
John Wick (Keanu's latest movie franchise)
John & Jane Smith (from Mr & Mrs Smith)

John Mason (from the Rock)
Jimmy Woo (from Marvel's Agents of ATLAS)
Johnny Barracuda (from the Danger Girl comic series)

John Lynch (from the Wildstorm Universe)
Jessica Drew (Better known as Spider-Woman. She used to be a HYDRA Agent before working for SHIELD)
Now that you know, we have to eliminate you...

Movie Review - Predestination

Movie: Predestination
Year:  2014
Genre: Mystery, Drama, Sci-Fi
What it was about (in > 75 words)
A Temporal Agent's** Doe (Ethan Hawke) final assignment to apprehend the Fizzle Bomber terrorist before he kills thousands in New York in 1975.

Working on the case as a Bartender, Agent Doe meets Jane (Sarah Snook), an orphan, where Jane shares her life story. Viewers learn certain truths that will surprise or shock most, if not all.
** Time Traveler/Cop for the uninitiated

Anything special/memorable?
This is NOT A TYPICAL Sci-Fi movie. OK, you have been forewarned.Jane's (Sarah Snook) on-screen transformation is really mind-boggling and exceptionally well done. Of course, I don't know if any of it was due to CGI but it didn't seem like it.
I have never seen or know who Sarah Snook was so when she first appeared, I actually thought she was played by Jodie Foster. It made me check who it was I was watching.
Both Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook turned in great performances. You immediately get pulled into the movie. I remember there was another great Ethan Hawke Sci-Fi from the 90s - Gattaca (together with Jude Law)!
<<  SPOILERS  >>
Once you finish watching the movie, you learn that Agent Doe, Jane and the Fizzle Bomber are actually the SAME PERSON <what...!??!>!!! Yeah, I'm telling you this movie will blow your mind!

Waste/worth the time?
This is one of the better Sci-Fi movies that I have watched in the past 10 years. It reminds me of the time when I watched Matrix in 1999. I compare this to Matrix because just like how the Matrix defined Sci-Fi for the era both visually and conceptually, Predestination also sets a milestone for the Sci-Fi movies of this era.

Being a huge fan of Sci-Fi (both for movies and comics), I can say that this one gives a very fresh take on Time Travel.

Predestination tries to tackle the age-old Time Travel paradox - can you actually change things when you Time Travel or nothing will change no matter what you do, even Time Traveling back and forth?

Definitely a MUST WATCH! Even more so if you deem yourself to be a Sci-Fi fan. Do give it a go - it will blow your mind (I promise)!

I will give this movie a 8.5/10!
