Story
In the wake of Secret Invasion and the formation of the Dark Avengers under Norman Osborn, Tony Stark’s former Avengers team (the Mighty one) is no more. But of course, a new team has to be formed to replace them.

Well, a new team is urgently formed (with the help from a much awaited return of the Scarlet Witch) to tackle the latest threat to the universe, the return of Chthon, thanks to the work of his lackey – Modred the Mystic. Modred alone would’ve been a heck of a challenge to the Avengers, but with both of these characters together, the world was really in trouble.

The 3 issues showed how the new team was formed and how Jarvis played a key role in the new team’s formation. We also see Hank take on a brand new persona – the Wasp (paying homage to the late Janet). Meanwhile, we also see Thor (along with Loki apparently) sit this one out as the whole of Asgard and Oklahoma had been sent to a different dimension.
Art
Khoi’s art is very reminiscent of the early Image house style mixed with a tinge of Jimmy Cheung. He’s quite good but a little rough on the edges. He has potential to be a heavyweight in the future with just a little bit of polish.
Additional Comments
With a roster like Scarlet Witch (well, she’s only partially there – read the story and you’ll know what I mean.), Quicksilver, Hulk (the angry green one), Hercules, Jocasta, Jarvis, Hank Pym, Iron Man, US Agent, Vision, Stature (of Young Avengers) and Amadeus Cho (Hulk’s friend), and villains like Chthon it sure spells excitement, but sadly, it failed to meet the excitement & expectations I had from such a line-up. However, Slott is finally addressing Pym’s emotional complex & self-esteem issues** – hopefully, leaving all of that baggage behind for good.

I have also utmost respect for Dan Slott’s work but this storyline could have been better. Let’s see what happens with the future issues.

** Long-time Avengers readers would know he had many issues that caused many problems, including having him thrown in jail.
